Great article and read about: Used Ford Ranger For Sale

Q: Is 102,000 miles alot for a used 1997 Ford Ranger???
Im thinking about purchasing a used Ford Ranger XLT. It is a decent price ($2300) for the XLT. I was just wondering how much life is left in this vehicle, just based soley on mileage. Anyone have experience with older Ford Rangers??
If so, what problems should I look for down the road??

A: 102k miles is a lot
more importantly I looked this up on kelly Blue Book

value
$1350

2300 WAYYY too much

Q: would a used ford ranger be good for a teenager who just got his license?
i have not got my license yet but would a used ford ranger be good for a teen be cause the insuranc would be low correct

A: Actually I think that this would be a good choice for a new driver for several reasons.
1. There is very little room in the cab of the truck so you wont have to worry about other passengers (as long as they don’t ride in the bed)
2. That is not a powerful or fast truck so there is less chance for speeding tickets or severe accidents.
3. Trucks are safer in the event of an accident because they have full frames, sit higher, have steel bumpers and the bed on the back if it was hit in the rear.
4. Pickup trucks are relatively stable compared to suv’s although not as stable as a car they are easy to drive and don’t tend to encourage speeding.
Hope I have been helpful and good luck with your new driver

Q: What are good sites to look for used or aftermarket Ford Ranger body parts?
I rolled my 2000 Ford Ranger XLT Supercab (4-door), and I’m looking for body parts now. I’m on a student budget. I need new passenger doors, a roof, windshield, passenger glass (both front and back doors), back window, and possibly a front passenger fender. And a tailgate somewhere along the line, not important now though. I’m looking for used or quality aftermarket parts.

Thanks!

A: LMC TRUCK they have lots of catalogs for pretty much every year and make of domestic trucks, i’d suggest trying them first, they have a lot of hard to find things as well like decals and emblems and badging that you’d normually have to find at a junk yard

Q: How much would an old, used, Ford Ranger cost?

A: You need to be more specific. Ford started making the Ranger in 1983.
You could pay anywhere from $500 to $6500.

Q: where can i find used ford ranger prerunner parts?
iam mostly looking 4 used prerunner ford ranger front fenders, front bumpers, light bars and beds

A: Along the side of the road in the Baja 500 and 1000. I saw one Ford Ranger go airborne and shed most of the bolt on crap when he landed.

Q: I bought a used 1996 ford ranger and it doesn’t have an owners manual. I need a copy of a fuse box diagram.
My rear tail lights are out. The brake lights work but that is it.

A: i have a 96 ranger (GREAT TRUCK!!!!!!) you can buy a good repair manual (Clymer Books) like i did. in this case the first thing i would check for corrosin is the trailer lights hookup at the back of the truck. this went bad on mine too, and i started blowing fuses for the rear lites.

Q: What is the average life expectancy of a Ford Ranger?
I’m looking at buying a used Ford Ranger. A lot of ones I see are 2000’s with around 100,000 miles. About how long or how many miles will they last without serious repairs?

A: depending on the care of the truck. your definately at the last legs of the Ranger motor wise it will likely smoke a little in the morning and may not pass smog checks without fresh tune ups and the like.
if you could find one with a good body but a blown motor at a great price it would be worth getting a new motor and clutch or rebuilt auto trans. they ride good get good milage. you can get a used Ranger cheeper than that Nissan pickup the other guy mentioned and I dont like paying more because it has a name more popular. the Ranger rides better than the Nissan

Q: Where can i find a used automatic transmission for a 1998 ford ranger 4×4?
I am looking for a cheap transmission for my 1998 ford ranger 4wd automatic transmission. I need the truck for school and it starts soon! Thanks!!
It is also a 3.0 Liter.

A: car-part.com

Q: can i use ford ranger lowering front coil springs on my 88 mazda b2200?
ford and mazda are pretty much the same right?
and while i’m at it, any ideas on what i could do for a bumper?

A: Same Truck But I would not advise lowering. You would not believe how many lowered trucks went through a dealer auction with no bids at all. Lowering de- values the vehicle and usually it cost more to get it back stock than the trucks worth

Q: hydraulic fluid used instead of oil in Ford Ranger 1998?
Have a 98 Ranger that was serviced for a clutch change, after driving the truck for several weeks after the clutch the engine starts to knock. When we checked the oli it smelled just like hydraulic fluid. Replaced the fluid with oil and the engine runs and holds pressure for a short time then loses pressure and starts to knock again. Could hydraulic fluid damage the crank and innards? Or should I just try to change the oil pump?

A: Your problem is not the pump, but a damaged engine due to wrong oil. No, Hydraulic fluid will not damage seals or cause corrosion. That is silly. In the US there are basically three grades of hydraulic fluid. 32 weight..which is basically similar to 10W motor oil, 46,,,15W motor oil and 64 which is basically 22 weight motor oil. All of this is too THIN for your engine. Hydraulic oil does have VERY good antiwear properties due to higher levels of Zinc, but if too thin and high heat, you will have damage to the main, rod, cam bearing, and lifters.
Sorry but you have big problems

Q: if i had to choose between a used nissan hardbody or a used ford ranger, which one would be better?
NOTE; i asked this question in the transportation section, but as slow as that board moves, i MIGHT have two answers in a week..so i’ll ask it here too.

if i get the nissan, it will be older and have more miles on it…for the same price i can get a newer ranger with less miles on it (due to faster depreciation of the ranger). BUT, here is where my dilemma is; even though the hardbody is older by a few years, they had a reputation for being bullet-proof in terms of reliability..the ranger did not. so, if i got a newer ranger, would it be as good a truck as the older nissan?

A: The Hardbody. Ford Rangers are worthless.

Q: How much should a perfect condition 1986 Ford Ranger XLT be worth (used)?
I’m looking at a used 1986 Ford Ranger that I really want to buy, but my parents are discouraging it because it’s over priced (and yes, if it is over priced I don’t want to buy it either). The person selling the truck is offering it to me for $3300 and it’s only got 111,000 kilometres on it, no rust, original interior & paint job, manual transmission, extended cab and apparently the truck runs absolutely amazingly. More specs on the truck are:

-V6 2.9 Litre Engine
-Newer set of all season tires + two rear winter tires
-Gator guarded truck bed
-Rust proofing was done before winter
-New spark plug & spark plug wires

If someone could tell me how much that would be worth (realistically), that would be great. Also if someone could tell me some website or book (sort of like the “Blue Book”, but that’s not being sold anymore) that tells me proper prices for used vehicles, that would be even better. Thanks!

A: if it runs it’s worth $1,000

2010 – 1986 = 24 years old

Q: could i use ford ranger lowering front coil springs on my 88 mazda b2200?
ford and mazda are pretty much the same right?

A: the 88 mazda doesnt have coil springs on the front of it , it has torsion bars , if ya want to lower a mazda you can either loosen the bolt on the end of the torsion bars , or buy drop spindles

Q: buying a used 1993 ford ranger 5 speed transmission?
im going to junkyard to buy a used transmission and it is a 5 speed so if i find another 93 rangers like mine with 5 speed is the gear ratio gonna be the same as the gear ratio in my stock transmission

A: my answer is try to look around on this site http://www.autozone.com/ there you find a lot of auto part

Q: I am not very familiar with the 2.5 mfi I 4cyl engine that is used in the 2000 ford ranger and the mazda B2500
What should I expect from this engine as far as reliabilaty durabilaty and what milage would the average life expectancy be? Are there any problems I should be aware of specific to this engine

A: All engine being made today should last at least 150000 miles if driven right and fluids changed at correct intervals
