Q: Can a Datsun 510 Drift Competitively for Not Too Much?
Hey. I love 510,s but I really want too drift. Could it if i just stiffen the frame, put on struts and sway bars, use an sr20 and lower it REALLY low. And maybe strip out the interior.
A: I’ve got an SR powered 510, mildly modified engine, 195 rear tires, and it’s like driving on ice when you hammer it
But they’re not going for very cheap anymore….
go with a 240, it’s cheaper and an easier car to do the SR swap in
Q: Would be wise to use E85 in 1969 Datsun 510.?
I have stronger fuel line in it alrigh.I know it not for your fuel lines. The car has a weber carb in it and built L-20B.
A: Might not run properly besides E-85 will melt that plastic fuel filter on the fire wall and the mechanical fuel pump has plastic parts. Unleaded 15% and Ethanol 85% has been used in Brazil for 20 years. Almost 30% less energy from this cooler burning fuel can be made up by supercharging. The 32/36 DGAV Webber carb. will need new jetting larger main and idle circuit jets and if you get a chance shave about 040″ off of the cyl head and use cam shaft tower spacers to keep the timing chain tight. Ethanol likes higher compression.
Q: from what model of Nissan of datsun can I use a 5 speed transmission for my datsun 510 that is ON a 4 speed??
A: 1978 up datsun 280z, 710, 510. any with an “L” engine. you may have to change the bellhousing, but this is an easy job. you can use your 4 speed bellhousing.
Q: Replacement heater core or radiator/fan for 68 datsun 510?
Which later car has a heater core that will fit a 1968 datsun 510?
Which aluminum radiator and electric fan are a good fit?
(for an upgrade)
I want to get used parts from auto salvage.
thank you
A: there is still club support out there for these little beasts but if you go trolling the yards knowing dimensions would be nice , good luck.
Q: Rear Drums to Disc Brakes on 1970 Datsun 510 2 door car?
I seen this done on other 510. I was just wondering how to go about it?
When making the adapter for the rear caliper, what thickness metal should be used (1/4, 1/2, 3/4,etc.) and what the precise measurments of the adapter? and steps on how to get it done right. Anyone please help. Thanx
A: You will need to change the master cylinder, proportion valve, e-brake cables, brake hoses, hub assemblies, backing plates.
Q: KA24DE or SR20DE in a Datsun 510?
So I’m restoring a Datsun 510 and just finished all the suspension work. I now need to transplant an engine. I wanted to do a NA motor because I love the simplicity/reliability/use of less parts. I wanted to know which motor would be better suited for my goals though. It is going to be a daily driver so reliability and simplicity is number one. I still want a decent amount of hp so I’ll probably rebuild the engine and put in stronger cranks ect ect. Maybe ITB if i really want to but that would drop the MPG. What would be the best choice considering no money constraints?
A: I work on all Datsun cars and trucks. You will get better reliability from the SR20DE engine and you will be surprised to know the SR20DET turbo version is still simple in design too and well worth it.
The KA24DE is a good motor, but lacks revving capability and power handling that the SR20 does. The SR20 may be a 2.0 but it makes better power easier.
They say the VG/VQ engines are better, but they are big V-6 engines and do make power but are heavy for a 510. It would be faster and easier to make power with a 4cyl.
With no money worries, go for the SR20DE or DET if you research some and you will see there is a good point to having a turbo as you can adjust the ECU for more power and add METH injection for unimaginable numbers.
Q: Need help with a Datsun engine?
Hello, I got a little problem. I have an L20b engine that im gonna put into my 1970 Datsun 510 2 door coupe. Before I put in the engine, I have it on my stand putting some new parts on. So I’m changing my water pump for the beffier 1983 Datsun 280zx Turbo water pump to flow more water into my car. The problem is that I cant use my original pully because the water pump was a clutch fan, so the round diameter is larger then my stock one. When I put on the pully from the beffier water pump, the pully doesn’t match up with my alt. & Crank pulley. It sits back about 1/4 inch or so. Has anyone done this mod on their 510 or has a buddy who done it. Or can anyone tell me what to do to fix this problem. I wanna kep the beffier one one, but I want to fix the pulley problem. Any help will do. Thanx
A: would it be possible to shim the pulley out to line up with the other pulleys?
Q: Need help buying a car.?
Ok, I about 15 and a half. I can get my permit next month and when I turn 16, I can get my driver’s license, I am planning on working hard to save up some money to buy myself a car. My dad said he can help to pay, but I have to work for it. Can someone tell me some good websites for used cars? And say the car I want is in Philadeplhia, Pennsylvania. And I’m in Orange County, California. Do they ship the car here? Or do I have to drive to Philly and pick up the car and drive it back? And by the way, the car I want is either a Datsun 240z, a Nissan 240sx, Datsun 510, or a Nissan S14. Help is greatly appreiciated. Thanks.
A: i will answer shipping, as far as shipping goes.. its a “pick it up on your own” type of deal…. because the only other way is to pay over 1000$ to ship it across the country….
try to stay only a few hundred miles from home sir!
and as for getting the car
try www.ebay.com
ebay motors is a great place to start! read all the descriptions!
Q: which engine should i get?
i have a 1970 datsun 510 that i am building and doing a v8 swap in. but i cant decide whethet to use a ford sb 289 or a 1970 302. ive heard the 289’s had really good power. but i cant find much about the 302 from a 1970 mustang. any help and maybe horsepower ratings for the different models of 289 and 302 would be great.
A: Am building a 66 mustang and ran into the same problem….decided to go with the 302 just for the fact that parts are plentiful. Ford motor sport has a nice GT-40 crate motor that runs about 3500 bucks that is ready to go either way, fuel injection and or Carb…..just change the oil pan and you have a great motor with about 350 HP. Good luck
