Q: How can I bypass the factory amplifier on a 99 Chevy Tahoe?
We are installing a Stereo in a 99 Chevy Tahoe and want to bypass the factory amplifier to the speakers. What is a good way to go about doing this?

A: I will usually run NEW speaker wires from the deck to the speakers in an application such as this. That way, even though I’ve may have removed the factory amp and deck, the wiring is still in place allowing me to easily replace them when the owner chooses to sell the vehicle but wants to keep the after market gear. It also prevents the vehicle from looking tampered with to the new buyer.

Q: How do you change a oxygen sensor in a 99 chevy tahoe?
I have a 99 chevy Tahoe and the sensors are bad I need to change them asap My daughter is coming home tomarrow and I am going to need the truck to pick her up 2 1/2 hours from home please help…

A: They just unplug and unscrew, there may be up to four sensors though so make sure to change the right one(s). There is a small tab you push in to unlock the electric connector and they should slide apart. You may need an 02 sensor socket ava at autozone as a lonatool if you cant get a 7/8″ wrench on them.

Q: where is the inside fuse box on a 99 chevy tahoe 4×4?
just bought a 99 chevy tahoe, 4×4, 4 door, where it the fuse box on the inside of the cab?

A: Fuse block is on driver’s side of the dash. Open door, and you will see a small removable panel. The door chime/flasher unit/ and some relays are located under the dash on the driver’s side just to the left of the brake pedal.
Inside the engine compartment, there is a black box on the driver’s side on the fender, that houses larger relays, like the ones for your A/C and fuel pump ect. Also some fuses, and 2 AUX fuses that you can tap (30A max) for whatever you want.

Q: Why does the gas gage vibrate on my 99 chevy tahoe?
my 99 tahoe gas gage vibrates, it works and reads how much gas there is, but it vibrates, have any idea what this could be caused from? thanks.

A: Customer Concern: The fuel gauge is vibrating very fast. It looks like it is reading accurately. The vehicle has a single fuel tank.

Tests/Procedures: 1. Has installed a gauge tester or substitute resistors in place of the fuel tank sending unit. 40 ohms for empty, 250 ohms for full. (The sender is linear – 145 ohms for 1/2 tank.)

2. If the gauge is stable in all positions tested, replace the sender in the fuel tank.

3. If the fuel gauge on the cluster still has the rapid movement. Disconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Blue connector. With the key on, connect a gauge tester from pin 9, Purple wire, to ground.

4. Set the tester to 45 ohms, then 90 ohms. Check for a steady needle at a 1/2 tank and then with a full tank. If the fuel gauge still vibrates, repair the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).

5. If the fuel gauge is steady, verify a good connection at the PCM. If OK, replace the PCM.

Q: chevy 99 tahoe v8 engine cylinder numbering and distributor rotation diagram?
I would like to see a diagram of a chevy 99 tahoe engine cylinder numbering and distributer rotation.

A: Start by facing the engine from the radiator. The front right is #1 the front left is #2 the second right is #3 and so on. The firing order is 18436572 and #1 cylinder can be found with #1 cylinder on a compression stroke and the timing mark on the harmonic balance pointing at tdc. This will give you a reference at the distributor being as the rotor is now pointing to #1 and clock wise is the rotation 18436572. Good luck, hope this helps 1999 was the change over to DIS with a 5.3 engine I assume that you still have the 5.7 with HEI

Q: I have a ‘99 Chevy Tahoe. when trying to start it sounds like the engines stressing?
I have heard that this could be the fuel pump, or since it was a used car when I bought it they gave us a copy key. I have read about certain codes needing to be reset with the fuel pumps when you take out a battery and replace it. Any suggestions out there? HELP!!!! I am 8 months pregnant and have 3 other children so any advice would be grateful to try to get my car up and running.

A: Perhaps the timing belt is worn (and skipping). [That produces an irregular idle, or stall.]

Additional (“related”) repairs offered by the mechanic would include these: other belt replacements (steering, water pump, etc.); spark plugs, faulty distributor & rotary cap/wires; worn fuel filter; worn radiator/hoses; or, air filter, fluid, whatever. Some of those are “tune-up” maintenance.
. . .
At ten years, a radiator could be corrosive, but probably not the main problem. The easy-to-get-to belts should be replaced yearly (worn, or not).

Q: Where can I find a heater hose for a 99 chevy tahoe?
My tahoe’s water pump was leaking and it got repaired, and now the heater hose broke off, I have tried Autozone and Checkers and they dont have it. The agency has it but I was wondering if there was maybe somewhere else I could find this. It is a hose that has rubber and aluminum. Thanks

A: Try the chevy dealer your trucks not that old. or www.gm-parts.com

Q: How do I remove passenger airbag in 99 Chevy Tahoe?
Need to replace the blower fan resistor. It is located behind the glove box, under the passenger side airbag. Looks like I need to remove the airbag to get it in and out. Wondering how I get the airbag out. Anyone have any ideas?
I need to replace the blower motor resistor, which is located on top of the blower box, behind the glove box, under the airbag, their is not enough room to remove it without removing the airbag.

A: there should be 2-4 nuts up underneath to hold it in

Q: In removing the air filter of a 99 Chevy Tahoe, how do you remove the bottom of the filter compartment?
There’s a screw under the wheel well that I took out, nothing
happened. There’s a plastic screw in the bottom of the cover but it doesn’t unscrew.
Please look at the question carefully before you answer-it asks how to get the bottom of the filter compartment out.

A: You should only need to remove the top cover to get to the filter. There are 4 screws holding it down. You need a big phillips, you need one with a fat head.

Q: How do I replace the front speakers in a 99 chevy tahoe?
I have googled it but it didn’t help much so if someone could explain or link me to a website then I would be greatful.

Also looking to replace the 4×10’s in the back, any help with that is welcome as well

A: The tweeters mounted next to the window/lock controls is as simple as pulling up on the small panel. It snaps in place. Then you can access the tweeters from the rear to remove/replace.

To get to the other, continue to remove the panel by removing the necessary screws on the door panel (in the pull locating when you close the door, behind the door handle).

Start at the bottom of the door panel, and pry it away from the door. The panel is held in place with theose little plastic push pin things. Use a flashlight, and look up from the bottom to see where they are (if I remember correctly there are 4 of them along the bottom of the panel, then a couple more along the sides). Use a large flat head as close to the plastic pin as possible to reduce the chance of damage to the door panel (you will see it bow as you pry it away from the door).

Also wrap your screwdriver with a bit of electrical tape (or something) to keep from scratching the paint on the door.

Work your way around the door, 1 pin at a time till it is loose, then lift upward slightly then remove. Take the window/lock controls and pass the smaller panel throught the hole so that you do not need to unplug the switch console.

Replace is opposite of removal. You may need to replace some of the plastic push pins, they are easy to damage during removal. You can pick some up at any auto parts store for a couple bucks for a package of them. Don’t hesitate to replace a damaged one, as it will cause the panel to rattle.

Q: Can the oil pan on a 99 chevy tahoe be removed in vehicle?
Just put the new motor in and forgot to install the oil pump driveshaft. Now i need to drop the pan, and the oil pump to install it.Is it possible to remove the oil pan in the truck or do i have to pull the engine?

A: the oil pan should drop out easily. with some it requires the removal or at least loosening of the timing chain cover.

Q: will a 99 chevy tahoe start with very little fuel in the tank?

A: If you have very little fuel in the tank it may not start because trash or condesation could be sucked up into the fuel filter obstructing all fuel flow to the engine components. Put an adequite amount of fuel in the tank and then change the fuel filter. Even if you changed the filter recently it only takes an instant depending on how much silt has built up in the tank . Good Luck
