Q: How good is a stock 2bbl off of an 85 Chevy truck with the 250?
I am considering swapping the 2bbl off of an ‘85 250ci onto my ‘75 292ci in place of the stock one barrel carb. Worthwhile or not?

A: you will need to get 2bbl manifold to fit ‘75 those adapter plates have drivability problems. If you want more power just rejet 1bbl one size main jet larger.

Q: I have a 85 Chevy truck with a 350 engine, edlebrock intake and holley avenger carb. I want more horse power?
I just want to add some more horsepower to my truck. I’m thinking about putting a 373 posi in the rear and I still want it to be street ready but can show off a little if I like.

A: Change the cam, change the trans. Get headers.

Q: how much would it cost to replace the transmissin seal on a 85 chevy truck?
the tranny is automatic and its not 4wheel drive
its a longbed and i don’t know the tranny just need an estimate…
it has a 305

A: If it is the rear output shaft seal, $35.00 for the seal, maybe less at your local auto parts store and about 1 hour in labor, or go to your local high school the may have a auto shop.

Q: 85 Chevy C10 truck will start and run great then Ill park it and come out hour later and it will fire initiall?
hour later I’ll go to start it and will firw initially but wont start.

A: Has it the standard ‘carb’, Hei set-up?

Q: My Headlights don’t work on my 85 Chevy truck?
The bulbs are new, and there doesn’t seem to be a fuse in the fusebox for headlights, the tailights come on. I already replaced the switch and that didn’t help.

A: somethimes when a bulb goes bad the rest of the lights will go off. In my camaro that happened

Q: 85 Chevy Full Size Truck Timing?
I have an 85 Chevy Truck with 6.2 diesel engine

After it has set for hours, or over nightm it is hard to start, turn, turn, turn…almost starts….turn turn turn, almost starts…turn turn turn…starts then dies. You get the idea. I always get it started, but I was just wondering, would the timing being off cause this? and if ti was off, how would I go about setting it, or how much would it cost? and also, would timing effect fuel economy? I know it helps for a regular gasline engine, not sure on a diesel through.

A: not a problem with timing. problem is old motor that isn’t heating the intake air enough to ignite the fuel until you have rolled it long enough to build up heat from friction as well as compression. all a matter of engine temperature.

Q: Do I need new gas rear shocks on my 85 Chevy truck?
My beloved old truck seems pretty bouncy, although streets here are notoriously full of potholes and bumps. I put new front shocks on about a year ago. My rear shocks were new in 1997. I put about 7,000 mi. per year on this truck. And how do you know if you have bad springs? I don’t want to buy anything unneccessary, I just want to keep my old gal going. Thanks very much for any help.

A: Over time leaf style springs may lose a bit of their flex and flatten out, making them less springy and puts more stress on the shocks. If you do a great deal of hauling, have an add a leaf installed for extra support. Replace the shocks if you have put 7,000 miles per year………that means the shocks you have on the rear have around 70,000 miles on them. Good luck !

Q: I have a 85 chevy truck w/a 350. it idle’s fine, but when drove for like 5min it stalls out, any ideas??
it idles great, runs great for like five min, then startst to spit and sputter. the more gas i give it the worse it gets. then it stalls. I wait for a min, it starts right up and good to go, for a bout a couple of mins then stalls again. have new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new carburateur. Could this be vapor lock???

A: Vapor lock is most common when using a fuel that is a much higher then recommended octane rating. Timing is of coarse a possibility but I would look more into your fuel problems, if you actually have a carb. which would be pretty uncommon, I would check to make sure the choke is properly adjusted try idleing the car and adjusting the mixture.

Q: How to install front leaf springs on 85 chevy c-10 truck?
Or if anyone knows how to lift 85 chevy c-10 truck without using any lift kit such as certain bigge

A: well first off you shouldnt be trying to put leaf springs on you two wheel drive. if you want a little lift just get the crank in coil spring spacers.

Q: is there anyway to make the steering on a 85 chevy truck less jumpy and less loose feeling?

A: couple of things to check

1. power steering pump and fluid, if the pump is faulty, your steering will wander and feel loose.

2. cracked frame where the power steering box mounts to the frame. very common especially if larger tires are being used. go to the site below for a simple fix

hope this helps

Q: Idle problem on 85 chevy truck….?
I have an 85 chevy c10 truck with A/C. Engine is 305 Automatic.
What can I do to fix my idle problem? When it is adjusted to spec, shifting from park to reverse and then drive is very annoying. It makes a lound sound and jerks into each gear. Driving it perfectly fine. It shifts through all gears fine. When the idle is adjusted lower that problem stops. Shifting from park to reverse and then drive is nice and smooth and quiet. But if I give it gas and then slow down real fast it dies out because the idle is too low. The guy that adjusted it said it has to be kinda high because I have A/C. I believe that because when I turn on the A/C the idle really drops. What can I do to fix this problem or what should the idle be set to?
Thanks in advance for the answers.
Also are you suppose to adjust the idle in park or drive?

A: it sounds like the person doing your adjustment does not have enough experience with carbs. your fuel mixture is probably lean or you have a vacuum leak making it difficult to achieve the proper idle rpm and not die. it also should have an idle up solenoid for the a/c that can be adjusted separately.

Q: Rust removal, prep on 85 Chevy truck– I’m TOLD it’s now so easy a caveman can do it. True?
Okay, I have a 1985 Chevy truck I love; not much rust, really. Window ledges, a few spots on hood. Worst are the posts, I think they’re called–the part at the back of the cab where the bed starts (sort of). I think I’d leave this part to experts. I’ve priced restoration and painting– about $1600 (including fixing a few creases and dents.) I’m afraid to spend the money and then need a new transmission or something big.

I’m not trying to make a show truck. This is my utilitarian, everyday ride. I’ve refinished furniture and stuff, how hard would it be to prep these spots? What do I need? Any links or advice would be appreciated. Also, is there something you can spray on that will at least halt the progression of the rust? Somebody told me there was…? Plus, I’m a female. Be kind.

A: Visit KBS Coatings website for good advice. The products do as they say. If you’re talking about 12 sq ft. or less….get their KBS system sampler with RustSeal for about $16… a real best buy! It has a cleaner, metal prep and 8 oz of paint. RustSeal goes on thin and covers 12 sq ft in 2 coats. RustSeal is selfleveling and brush marks flow out nicely. You can topcoat with your automotive paint. Rustseal will sand nicely w/o gumming up.

Q: ‘85 Chevy truck question?
My buddy has an 85 chevy p/u and hes pretty redneck and doesnt have a computer so he wanted me to find out for him an answer to this question.

How big of a suspension lift can you put on an 85 chevy pick up before you have to lengthen the driveshaft?

He thinks it might be 4″ or 6″ does anyone know?

A: Running a 4″ lift requires a 4″ steering arm and extended brake lines. The only extra mods needed to jump to a 6″ lift is a 2″ pitman arm and a front driveshaft spacer. That’s what I’m running and it works great.
Tell your buddy that he will regret going with a 4″. Its not much more trouble to run a 6″.

I run a 76 3/4ton chevy with a 6in Skyjacker and It has the same front end distance as the full size blazers.

6in and 35’s are a good setup. You can also run 36’s if you want also with no fender cutting.

Plus over a six inch you run into steering headaches, needing to eventually go to the crossover steering for things to work smoothly.

Q: what kind of sound system can i put in my 85 chevy truck?

A: not much info here or how much your willing to spend. I have had a bunch of them trucks, and have two now. there is a place for three speakers on the dash, and I had one truck i cut out a hole in the kick panels for speakers, another I used a jig saw and put six by nines in the bottom of the door under the door panel, then covered em with the screen that the speakers came with, looked stock. behind the seat is a little tight for a sub, but the right one will fit. I had an amp mounted on the back of the cab (inside) behind the seat, looked good. had the main power wire running through the speedo cable hole on the firewall.

Q: 85 Chevy Electric Windows.?
Ok, I have an 85 Chevy Truck, I have electric windows, and recently I have been having problem where sometimes the windows will go down and up, sometimes they wont, only way to make sure was to grab the window and help it along. Sometime it will stop going up or down mid way and wont go anymore, but will later. now, My drivers window is down and wont even start to come back up. i have heard that the switched sometimes go bad in these old Chevys, wondering if you all had any insight as to weather it might be a switch or the motor? and about what a motor replacement would cost.

A: it could be the switch, it could be the motor or it might even be the ground. if you know someone with a testing meter, test to see if you have a good connection to the switch, if it is the ground you will have to remove the door panel to check it. the door panel will have to be removed if it is the motor. I would try the switch 1st. then work from there. You might want to grease the gears and track also.
