Q: How many miles are too many on a used 1997 pontiac trans am?
I was wondering becuase im looking at buying a 1997 pontiac trans am with 80,000 miles on it for 7 grand. I was wondering at what total milage does it start developing problems? And if they would be simply fix it problems or major problems. Also about how many miles until it becomes a burden with repairs and wouldnt pay to have the car anymore because of alot of repair costs.
A: It almost totally depends on how it was driven and cared for by its previous owner(s). If it is a car known by its racy image, often it has been used and abused, so unless “Grandpa and Grandma” owned it since it was new, you may be buying a lot of problems. Get a very experienced, reputable mechanic to check it out thoroughly before you possibly wind up with a very large headache.
Q: Does anyone know where i might find a good used 1978 black Pontiac Trans Am for sale?
I am looking for a good used Black 1977 or ‘78 Pontiac Trans Am for sale, Preferably in or near Kentucky. the price does not matter but I would like to find one between 12,000 and 7,000 if that’s possible.
help is appreciated, and thanks
A: My suggestion would be craigslist. You could probably find a good one or a broken down one and use the extra money to fix the latter.
It’s not impossible to get a good one for under $12k.
Q: Would you recommend buying extended warranty on used 2001 Pontiac Trans Am with 19k miles?
We are purchasing from Carmax. The warranty being offered is a 5 year/ 60,000 miles for $1800.00.
Forgot to mention…this vehicle has the ram air and is in TOP NOTCH condition! The previous owner definitely babied this thing. It was garage kept, never smoked in, all factory parts.
A: NO, they are a ripoff!
Q: How much does a used carburetor cost for a late 80’s early 90’sTrans Am?
My girlfriend is fixing to buy a used Pontiac Trans Am and this guy took out the carburetor and some sort of wire connecting it. I was wondering if anybody knew how much it would cost plus labor putting it in…I’d appreciate any guesses or ideas knowing this. Thank you.
A: thats a fuel injected car and doesn’t have a carburator, it looks like a carb but it isn’t, it could be throttle body injection, I would try to find a new one or a rebuilt one from a parts store.
Q: What percentage of people would you say used to refer to a Trans Am as a TA? Dinner is on the line.?
My husband thinks I just made that up. I remember that most everyone used to say TA when they were talking about a Pontiac Trans Am. If it were a Firebird then they would say Firebird, but not all Trans Ams were Firebirds.
A: 80% of those that actually knew what a Trans Am. was. 10% of those who had no clue and just wanted to sound cool. Depends on the croud. I had one; sometimes heard “nice car” BUT mostly heard “great TA”. Make him buy you a real meal not a happy meal.
Q: Does anyone know where I can find a used 1995 Pontiac Trans Am passenger side tail light lens?
A: ebay or junk yard
Q: I’m looking for a used Pontiac Firebird Trans Am?
I’m looking for a used Pontiac Firebird Trans Am between the years of 1998 and 2002. I’ve already checked google, ebay, and edmonds.com. Any one know where i can find somethig like this.
A: Yeah How about the good old Autotrader for one.Carsonline.com is another.Cas.com.Dealsonwheels.com There are more.Just put in Trams Am for sale in your search you be surprised all the places that come up. Sorry that should be Cars.com
Q: Would it be worth buying a used trans instead of having mine rebuilt?
The rebuild cost $1,600-$1,800. I am looking at around $700 for the used trans, plus whatever it cost to install. Its a 680LE trans for a 99′ 6.5l 3500 Chevy Express Diesel. Supposedly the wrecked donor car had 79k miles.
The trans place could rebuild my old transmission and get a pretty penny, if you think about it.
The truck almost has 300,000 miles. Its not worth putting so much money into it.
The used trans comes with a 30 day warranty. And was tested.
A: I bought a used tranny for my wifes 92 4 runner,,,Same deal not worth rebuilding it…Worked great…Even sold the truck and the chick that bought it is still driving around today!!!Then on the other perspective…The tranny in my 67 plymouth went out….Spent 850. bucks on top of the line race parts…Did the work myself with the help of a friend….Now i,m good to go!!!
Q: Is online banking is safe as long as I have anti-virus software on my laptop? Pls help! am using online trans?
I am scared to continue using online transaction because I heard that they can steal your personal information from the internet. Is it safe anyway?
A: Your anti-virus has little to nothing to do with the security of your online banking. The first thing to do is make sure the site is using hypertext transfer protocol (http). It will be at the beginning of the web address in your browser. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, make sure you see the icon of a padlock on the page. Depending on what your browser is as to where it will be located. IE is next to the browser and Firefox is near the bottom right. Your firewall plays a part in this as well. Make sure it is activated. Additionally, whether you use wireless internet or not or whether you have more than one computer or not you should have a router. A good router, configured properly can prevent unwanted intrusions. Good luck!!
Q: How many companies use trans fatty oils in the US?
I am doing a thesis for my report and want to know what percentage, or amount of companies still use trans fats in foods.
A: a good starting point would probably be to contact FDA,
http://www.fda.gov/
Q: Do Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Trans Am use the same light bulbs?
I want to buy HID light for my 1995 trans am but I could only find the bulbs for a 1995 camaro can I still use it since most of their parts are the same????
A: yes. all of the bulbs as exactly the same in both cars.
good luck
Q: What should I check for when buying a Camero or Trans AM/Firebird?
I am looking to buy a used Camero or Trans AM/Firebird and I have a few that I have my eye on, but the only problem is that I am a first time buyer and I want to be able to pick out a reliable car that wont brake down on me within a month or so. What are some things I should look out for when I go to look at the cars at the dealer ship and are there questions I should ask them?
Also I found a really nice 89 Camero, but it has a few rust spots around the drivers side door and a spot around the windsheild. Should I be conserned about that? Or will I be able to fix it? Its not that bad, but Im not sure if I should worry about it.
Thanks!!!
A: You mentioned wanting a reliable car, these were not known for being the most reliable cars out there. It is basically a rather crude car wrapped around a large engine (some of the older ones have exposed door hinges), and that is what many people want. Body integrity was not great, there will probably be a lot of squeaks and rattles. They also tend to have been driven hard, so you have the problems associated with that. Unless you can find one owned by an older gentleman that babied it, you will be doing repairs in the near future. Insurance costs would be a very big issue on a newer one, but if you are getting a late 80’s model, I am guessing you are not going to get full coverage.
I would also keep in mind that these cars are not the best daily commuters. They are loud, ride hard, and are hard to see out of. But I imagine the lure of a V8 and a stereo with several thousand watts can drown all that out.
-if it is a 5sp manual, do the stall test – move it up against and immovable object and in 5th gear slowly disengage the clutch. If it stalls the clutch is still ok. If it slips and makes a horrible sound, you will need a clutch
-check all fluids you can reach (bring a good flashlight) – no odd smells or water mixed in (may look milky) – be especially certain there is no antifreeze floating on top of the engine oil (greenish). This would indicate a cracked block or leaky head gasket (run away)
-drive it for a good half hour and be honest, if it has short comings, can you live with it
-check the tires for even wear, and even if they are the same brand and age – 2-3+ different brands indicates someone has done everything as cheaply as possible and the rest of the car was probably done on the cheap as well
-push down hard on all 4 corners, if it bounces more than once or twice, the shocks are worn
-do you test drive during the day, in bright sunlight if possible – look for waves in the paint, colors that don’t quite match and panels that line up poorly. This likely signals body work
-does the automatic shift smoothly
-know what the car is worth and stay within those numbers
-walk away from a project car, there will be others out there – chances are whatever work was done it was not done correctly
-how does the paint look – if it is all cracked and nasty, that is a good indicator that the rest of the car has not been taken care of
-check the glove box for past inspection slips and see if anything sticks out, any notable rejections
-note the wear and tear on the seats and pedals. Make sure it really is 60k miles and not 160k miles
-was the owner a smoker? that smell never really leaves the car
You will not find a perfect car, it will have a few flaws.
Q: looking for a hatch pull down assembly for a 1986 trans am, repro, or used?
I amlooking for the full assembly for the hatch pull down on a 1986 Trans Am, that’s the whole thing, not just the motor or parts, will consider repro, but would like to get a used one due to the cost
A: try Greenleaf auto recycling, they are one of the largest networks of recyclers in the US. I use them at work for used parts.
( I work at a Chevy-Pontiac dealer) see web site.
Q: What diagnostics equipment to use for a 1995 trans am?
I know that my 1995 trans am has an OBD1 system with an OBD2 port. What is the cheapest setup I could use to get trouble codes from this system? I would prefer it if I could put some software on my laptop.
A: I explained to you before how to retrieve the codes, and that is cheap. If you would rather have some fancy program for a lap top, be ready to fork out at least 400 bucks. Good luck. Christopher
Q: what grade of gas does a trans am use?
im thinking about getting a 1998-2001 trans am 6-speed in the near future
its a 350 engine and wondering if i can put regular gas or do i have to put premium in it?
thanks
A: Unlike my old Thunderbird Super Coupe, premium is not required in my 2000 Trans Am but it is “Recommended”. I have run regular unleaded in it when premium was not available or to save a few dollars and did not have any spark knock but did notice a bit of a power loss.
Check the owners manual for fuel requirements.
Yes the LS1 is a 346 but most people associate 5.7 with 350 so they just say it’s a 350.
