Q: whats the difference between a 73 camaro and a 79?
whats the difference between a 73 camaro and a 79 camaro. Are the back ends the same or are the different? Are the tail lights the same?

A: All the major things you see are different. The shape and size of rear glass, the look of tail lights, the tail light filler panel, the front nose, bumper, rear bumper, the dash, console, gauges. I think the seats are too.. Low back vs. high back seats

Q: How to install front spoiler side extensions on a 79 Camaro?
i got a 79 camaro and i wanna install the front side extensions of the front chin spoiler like how the Z28 have, but im not sure how. help please!

A: There are two or three holes that will have to be drilled thru front fenders for mounting studs to go thru.

Q: will a 71 350 turbo tranny fit in a 79 camaro with the same tranny?
My turbo 350 tranny went out in my 79 camaro and i found a turbo 350 that would come off a 71 chevy truck. Would the tranny fit right in or would it require some adjusting? Please five me as much detail as possible if there needs to be adjusting.

A: Turbo 350 box shape hasnt changed.

You will need to check that the input shaft is the same, so that your torque converter will line up on it, and that the output shaft is the same, so that your driveshaft yoke will slide onto it.

The only way to do it is to try your parts on the new gearbox.

I would imagine that you will need to change the gearbox mounts, and use your original shifter linkages and also your oil lines.

Q: what kid of fuel injected engine can i drop on a 79 camaro?
i have a 79 camaro,, but i want to drop a newer fuel injected camaro engine , maybe an lt1 but im not sure if thats even possible.. let me know whats possible!~

A: SHEET,,,, you can drop any GM fuel injected engine in there if you have the cash.

But hey, go for the mack daddy if you are going to go. 4bolt 350 (any) with a 400 crank – (yes, that’s 383 cubic inch stroker), and the fuel injection can come from any aftermarket set up. Just pair it up with a set of aftermarket heads and you can get even better flow than an LT1. Toss on some headers, and a mild cam, and it’s stop light to stop light action.

You will need a cage to keep from twisting the uni-body.

Q: Whats the best engine/ten i can put in a 79 camaro?
im thinkin about puttin in a new engine/tranny into a 79 camaro that i might get. (depends on what i can do) i want to know whats the best option
Whats the best engine/tranny i can put in a 79. I want it to be loud and fast.

A: LS1/T56

or

383 / 700R4

Q: How to install hood pins on a 79 Camaro?
Im getting a 6in. fiberglass pin-on cowl hood for my Camaro and would really appreciate any tips, directions, or even pics to help me out. Thanks and HELP!

A: First bolt the hood up and get it aligned and bolt it down. Then find a spot were you want the hood pins to be on the radiator support, drill holes for the pins making sure they are both even and put them in and put some grease on the top of the pins and slow put the hood in the pins and lift up, you will now have the spots were you need to drill holes. You should be able to figure the rest out.

Q: How hard is it to swap a transmission in a ‘79 Camaro?
1979 Camaro with a stock 305, has the stock automatic…
would like to put in a manual transmisson..not sure which one right now though..

A: Very easy. You will need to go to the junk yards and scrounge up a clutch peddle / brake peddle mount. Plus all the linkage etc. to make it work. You will also need a flywheel, bell housing, and trans. Best bet is to find a second gen camaro that is a standard and get all the parts from it. The Borg Warner T10 is the best trans for reliability.

PS. the auto trans in the car weighs about 150 lbs. a T10 weighs about 100 lbs. Saginaw’s and Muncie’s weigh about 150 lbs.

Q: How fast would a 79 camaro go?
hi just wondering how fast a 79 camaro z28 (350) would go like what would it top out at

A: That car, according to the website listed, was rated at around 170-175 horsepower, with a 3.42:1 rear gear on the automatic model. Unfortunately, since the ’70s saw the introduction of smog control crap, this car has a fairly restrictive exhaust emissions control system, and probably has miles of vacuum tubing under the hood. All that stuff sucks the life out of the engine. However, it’s still possible to bury the needle on the speedometer. Those cars didn’t have speed limiters, so it’ll go as fast as you want to rev the engine in high gear. (I had an early ’70s Nova–similar to the camaro– that would run 115 no problem) Just be careful, the tires may not be rated for the speeds you think you want to run.

Check the site listed for more specs on your car.

Q: How much to paint my 79 Camaro, plus racing stripe?
I’m buying a 1997 Chevy Camaro Berlinetta. It’s allready Orange, which I like, but faded on the top to the point where you see the white primer through the orange. I’ll keep the Orange color, but want to add 2 black stripes, about 8 inches each, to the top. It’s a Corvette “T” Top with a spoiler and air induction on the hood. So, in California, what do you think this will run me?

A: an arm and a leg. if you suck my dick ill do it for free

Q: How much would it cost to restore a 79 camaro?
The car needs a new engine and exhaust system. The body needs new doors, new front fenders, new rear fenders, and a new front bumper. It also needs a new windshield and rear defogger and obviously a paint job at the end. The interior needs a new carpet and the center console needs new vinyl. I know the parts for the body are fairly cheap but I don’t know what labor will cost since I’ve never been to a body shop.

A: Depends anywhere from 14thousand to 25thousand

Q: i just bought a 79 camaro that supposedly has a 383 stroker how can i tell if its a stroker?
The motor is very sluggish it won’t spin the tires even in the rain! Anybody have suggestions on what’s wrong?

A: As Nathan said use a probe or if available a puffer. The stroke should be 3.75 in for 400 or 383 , 3.48 for 350/305 , 3.80 for factory Chevy 383 like the HT383

Check the harmonic balancer for a counter weight or a wide slot cut out . some ballancers have the weight on the inner ring .
The sluggishness could be from a number of causes like poor ignition timing, valves not adjusted right, cam timing off , to carb not working right or too small/large

Q: How do I find my dads old 79 Camaro Z28?
I have the VIN number along with other details but I dont know where to start tracking it down. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A: I’d agree with car guy….check with your DMV and see if they can trace it by the VIN number . Usually there’s a fee to do this but it should be available under open records laws. You could also contact your insurance agent and see if they can track it down for you. Most insurance companes have access to databases to see who has insurance coverage based on a VIN number. They may not allow any records to be accessed by private individuals though.

And some companies offer services to trace VIN numbers to current owners for a fee.

Q: i am thinking about buying a 79 camaro and want to put my 4litre v6 from my 05 tacoma in it. thoughts?
the camaro is dead and will only be about 500 to buy. and i am just wondering what to do with a 25,000 dollar limit. and i was thinking that would be cheaper than getting t he 675hp 555in edelbrock that i had my eyes on.

A: first off, why put in a V6 (foreign v6 of all things…) into a camaro? second of all, that v6 is computer controlled. the swap isnt impossible, just insanely expensive to do. it will require the complete harness/ecm/fuel pump driver/ect ect from the tacoma and wire it ALL into the camaro. not to mention you’ll have to use the toyota transmission, make a custom shifter linkage and get a custom length driveshaft for the different driveshaft lengths. plus, the trans and motor mounts wont work at all. your gonna have to do ALOT of fab work. it will not be worth your trouble. you will spend around 15,000 dollars on everything involved on making this swap work and even then it probably wont work exactly right. but if your DEAD SET then go ahead. but im telling you, not worth it. start calling FABRICATION shops now because they are gonna become your best friend! Good Luck!!!!

Q: What kind of engine came in a 79″ camaro?
I found a 79″ camaro with a 350 v8 but I want a v6?

A: You can replace your 350 with a 4.3 v6 pretty easily, it’s just a shortened small block chevy, but I don’t see the point. It’s value will remain highest with the 350 in it. V-6’s in these cars are not too popular or in demand.

Q: I have a 79 Camaro with a 454 and it has a oil pan leak.?
You can see were the previous owner has tried to patch it, and it leaks slowly and eventually slimes the whole bottom of my Camaro. Should I trie to patch it or get a new oil pan for it?

A: just get a new oil pan and what ever you do, do not use red rtv on the gasket oil will break the rtv down and the peices of it will fall into your oil pan and can clog the pick up screen
